I am a registered Clinical Psychologist working in Carlton, Victoria.

I work with adults, children, young people and their families.

I hold a current clinical appointment at headspace, our National Youth Mental Health Foundation. I previously held clinical appointments at Alfred Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS), The Royal Children’s Hospital in their Paediatric Rehabilitation Service, and The Austin Complex Pain Service.

Approach

I come to understand each person in their own right, with their own story and in their own timing. My approach has been informed by my clinical training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT), including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have trained, practiced and taught mindfulness meditation and yoga and this informs my approach in that I consider the role of the body-mind connection in therapy. I have studied exercise science and I am familiar with literature that details the roles of physical activity and nutrition in mental health and wellbeing. I hold developmental, relational, systemic, somatic and social perspectives in my work. My work is ethical in that it focuses on the desires of the person seeking support rather than my own. I value self-reflection and transparency. My training has included my own personal intensive therapy in order to put myself in a position to best support others and understand the challenges and nature of healing through psychotherapy.

Therapy

Children and young people

Therapy for children and young people takes a family-based approach that commences with meeting the family to understand the perspectives on what the issues are. From here, it may involve individual, parent and family sessions.

An important developmental task for young people is individuating from their family and developing healthy independence while still being able to access emotional support. This can highlight the importance of individual work for the young person, and, in some cases, child-focused parent work.

Adults

Individual therapy would start where you are. Therapy can be a creative process that can develop alongside trust and the opportunity for spontaneity to experience one’s self in a new way.

I appreciate that we often do not understand the reasons that contribute to our pain. So we can benefit from having someone walk alongside us as we learn new or forgotten ways of being.

Support for parents

Child-focused parent work may aim to help parents understand and attune to their child. This work may also aim to strengthen the family system around the child. This can maximise the benefits of therapy as parents hold the most significant therapeutic potential for their children. This approach functions to respect the natural authority of parents.

Reports

I do not provide clinical, educational or legal reports.

Clinical Supervision

Approach

I am a Board Approved Psychology Supervisor. This means that I've completed training with the Australian Psychological Society (APS) that has been approved by the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) to supervise Provisional Psychologists seeking their general registration and Clinical Psychology Registrars. I also provide supervision to Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Psychotherapists, and other mental health providers. I also provide, secondary supervision, one-off supervision sessions/case consultation, and external supervision for practitioners working in public or private sectors.

Depending on your reasons for seeking supervision we will develop a plan based on these aims. Supervision will range from being more educative and goal-oriented to being more reflective and supportive depending on these aims and professional development.

It is important to me to make supervision grounded in respect. I know that supervision works best when nothing is off-limits and we are able to talk frankly about the work.

I do not provide supervision related to AHPRA complaints, supervision for court reports, supervision solely for written assessments, or supervision for the 4 + 2 pathway.

Appointments and Rebates

Appointments are 50 minutes in duration. We can discuss the fees in your initial contact with me.

You may be eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. The Medicare rebate you may be eligible for is currently $137.05 per session. A Mental Health Care plan needs to be renewed with your GP or medical professional after the initial six sessions to review for four more rebated sessions. This is a total of 10 rebates per calendar year with a Mental Health Care Plan.

NDIS and some private health providers can reimburse partially or in full for therapy. Some people prefer to pay privately, without Medicare or any medical professional involvement, which is also accepted.
